Cabbage paruppu usili

This is the simplest way of making the cabbage paruppu usili. It is a healthy side dish with vegetable and protein, which can be made in 10 minutes. Please refer the link for making the paruppu usili idlys.

Ingredients

  • Grated Cabbage ——————————- 2 cups
  • Paruppu usili idlys ————————— 2
  • Grated coconut ——————————— 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder —————————– 1/8 tsp
  • Chili powder ————————————- 1/4 tsp
  • Cooking oil —————————————- 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

For tempering

  • Mustard seeds —————————- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds ——————————- 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaf ————————————- 1 spring
  • Cooking oil ———————————- 1 tbsp

How to crumble the paruppu idly

  • If you are using frozen paruppu usili idlys, please thaw them to the room temperature before using it (See the link for details)
  • Crumble them into small pieces as shown below

How to make

  • Heat a heavy bottom pan on medium heat
  • Add oil and mustard seeds, once it crackles, add the cumin seeds and curry leaf
  • Add the grated cabbage, salt, chili powder and turmeric powder
  • Stir fry in medium high heat for 4 to 5 minutes
  • Add the crumbled paruppu usili and mix them well
  • Cook it for 3 more minutes
  • Add the grated coconut and stir for 2 more minutes
  • Switch off the stove and now it should be ready to serve
  • It goes well with rice
